Brooklyn Friends School seeks to hire a part-time (two hours a day) Jazz teacher to teach 5th-12th Grade Jazz, and support students as a Middle School advisor.
An MA or MFA degree is preferable. Candidates should have a strong background in teaching jazz instruments and conducting school jazz bands, as well as experience teaching middle and upper school students.
Comfort with and desire to utilize interactive, creative and inspirational teaching techniques, assessments, and technology in the classroom is desired.
All Middle/Upper School teachers also serve in the capacity of Advisor to eight or nine Middle School students.
Advisors oversee students' progress in all classes, serve as the primary contact with parents, and participate in other responsibilities such as overnight trips, leading anti-bias and social-justice activities, and facilitating service learning.
Teach up to eight sections of jazz across middle and upper divisions
Support IB Music jazz students
Direct winter and spring Jazz Concerts
Collaborate and plan with colleagues and the chair of the Performing Arts department to develop curriculum
Serve as an advisor in the middle school

Ability to meet and adhere to multiple deadlines
Demonstrated commitment to professional development and lifelong learning
Bachelor’s degree with a master’s degree preferred
Three or more years of teaching experience preferred
Experience working as part of a collaborative team of teachers.
