The Woodlands Township the 2019 NRPA Gold Medal award winner for excellence in parks and recreation administration is seeking an Aquatic Superintendent. Manage and direct the activities of the Aquatics Division which includes 2 Coordinators (Guard, Programs), one (1) Pool Tech Foreman, six (6) Pool Technicians, 14 pools, five spray grounds, fountains and a seasonal lifeguard corp of over 350. Develop, implement and monitor the annual operating and capital budgets (approximately $2.5 million) and is responsible to generate over 50% of operational cost through revenue (pool passes, day passes, pool rentals, etc.) Coordinate a comprehensive series of aquatic programs (900 swim team members/3 summer teams, 1900 participants), including providing lifeguards for triathlons. Develop policies, procedures, rules and regulations and ensure their enforcement. Train subordinates in the technical aspects of swimming pool operations and maintenance. Coordinate professional training (Lifeguard, WSI, FA/CPR, Waterpark, Waterfront, etc.) and certification for staff; may need to perform the duties of guard or instructor as needed. Interview and select new employees. Coordinate pool operations and maintenance staff to ensure proper water conditions, pump and filter maintenance and all mechanical systems of the pools. Inspect the pools, water features and equipment regularly and recommend improvements. Direct and supervise the maintenance of pool chemistry. Coordinate and work cohesively with the Recreation Division for aquatic programming and pool pass sales. On-call rotation and participate in emergency response activities.
Must possess or be able to obtain a American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or Instructor Trainer certification; and a Certified Pool Operator or Aquatics Facility Operator are required. CPRP preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education or related field plus over three years’ experience in developing, promoting and implementing successful aquatic programs/activities and pool management with 2 years supervisory experience.
