The Kew-Forest School, a preschool through 12th grade, co-educational day school founded in 1918 in Forest Hills, NY, seeks an experienced part-time Middle & Upper School Music teacher. Kew-Forest is proud to enroll an astonishingly diverse student body, including approximately nine percent of whom are international students. The ideal candidate will have or be...
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a Music field;
Three or more years of Middle and Upper School Music teaching experience (independent schools preferred);
A love of Middle and Upper School students;
A dynamic instructor who can reach, teach, and differentiate instruction as needed for a range of learners;
Ability to deliver a comprehensive and robust Music program for beginning, intermediate and advanced students to teach music theory, musicology, voice, and performance;
Ability to teach instruments including the ukulele, piano, djembe, and metallophone;
Ability to create an inquiry-based classroom environment where students' ideas are central and content knowledge and skills are deepened through compelling questions, projects, and instruction;
Ability to effectively use technology to deliver curriculum;
Experience teaching remotely;
Ability to develop engaging virtual field trips around Long Island and the New York City boroughs;
Familiarity and comfort working with a globally diverse group of parents, students, and colleagues;
Adept at providing regular evaluation of student knowledge of content.
Timely and accurate records of grades and citizenship
Strong written and oral communication to effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues;
A collaborative instinct to facilitate working with other Middle and Upper School teachers;
Active as an educational professional in the field of Music;
Demonstrated commitment to professional development and lifelong learning
