Position begins January 2021. This position will provide quality art instruction to our 5th - 8th graders. We have high expectations for our students and seek a professional educator who will uphold those expectations and challenge them to think critically, engage with the world around them, and cultivate the confidence to showcase their best. AP has recently invested in a new Art Studio that includes a kiln; it is a wonderful space for a committed educator to make their own and in which students can produce outstanding work. Our school is committed to employing emerging research-based best practices and appreciates innovative pedagogy that enables students to take ownership of their learning, collaborate with their peers, and showcase their inherent creative energies.
Teach up to 16 class periods of Art (Grades 5-8) per week; all classes at AP are single-gender and average 16 students
Teach during our 3-week summer term each June as well as the traditional mid-August to late May academic year
Lead one enrichment course/club (of teacher’s own design) that meets two afternoons per week
Serve as a student advisor
Attend all faculty meetings, professional development meetings, and some school recruitment and community events throughout the year
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university; master’s preferred
A willingness to continually grow in one’s professional practices and collegiality
An ability to relate to, and inspire, middle school students
A passion for, and desire to fully embrace, the unique mission of Academy Prep
Previous teaching experience and/or work with middle school-aged students preferred
