The Siena School seeks a founding Head of School for a new school planned to open Fall 2021 in northern Virginia. Siena is one of the nation’s leading independent schools serving children with language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia. The school is located just outside Washington, DC in Silver Spring, Maryland. In response to significant and ongoing parent interest, Siena has been in the planning stages to establish a sister school in the Northern Virginia suburbs. The founding Head of School will help lead the development and start-up of the new Virginia school, initially serving grades 3-8 with the possibility of expanding to high school later. The Head will be directly involved with all aspects of opening the new campus.
Proven ability to lead, coach and grow a high-performing team
Effective communicator and problem-solver who can develop a strong parent community, and build effective professional community relationships
Expertise in language-based learning differences/dyslexia preferred; or a clearly demonstrated commitment to teaching students who learn differently, and multi-sensory and project-based teaching strategies
Ability to develop and successfully manage a budget, and other school operations
An interest and aptitude for the dynamic, entrepreneurial and challenging environment of creating a new school
Reflective, growth-oriented, leader with high drive for excellence
Master’s or advanced degree preferred
About The Siena School
The Siena School has become a national leader in educating bright, college-bound students with mild to moderate language-based learning differences. With 130 students in grades 4-12, including 40% students of color, the school has completed a new wing, increasing capacity to over 150 students. The school focuses on the professional development of its staff who have presented at national and international conferences, including the NAIS Annual Conference. Siena is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
