The Music Teacher at St. Peter’s School is responsible for creating an innovative music curriculum, providing learning experiences in music and the performing arts, and supervising students in a positive, creative climate that develops the talents of each student in the field of music. Reviewing the scope and sequence of the music curriculum, working in conjunction with the other Arts Faculty to create interdisciplinary units, and sharing resources and developing unique and distinctive musical opportunities for the St. Peter’s students are all priorities for this position.
Prepares and implements music classes, including vocal instruction, training with classroom instruments, and general musicianship.
Prepares and implements music classes for students in Third –Eighth Grades.
Provides leadership to the music department.
Utilizes inclusive repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and modern selections, which are appropriate for the age and developmental level of each class.
Provides opportunities for students to demonstrate their musical ability and encourages students to show pride in their work and their school.
Fosters a joy and enthusiasm for music-making throughout the school.
Plans, rehearses and directs students in musical programs for the school.
Evaluates each student’s musical growth and performance and reports to parents about student progress throughout the year.
Listens and responds to student and parent concerns in a responsible and constructive manner.
Implements a variety of instructional and assessment methods to meet the students where they are academically. Integrated use of educational technology, design-thinking, experiential education, and project-based learning would be appropriate.
Actively supports the school’s mission, philosophy, and school policies.
Given the pandemic, online instruction is possible during this year.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in music or related field and a minimum of 3+ years experience teaching music
Master’s degree is preferable
Knowledge of and practice in current music education and innovative approaches to teaching music
Ability to work as a member of a team
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact with students of all ages, parents, and co-workers

We are seeking a dynamic Interim Art Teacher teacher for the 2020-2021 school year who has experience planning an integrated curriculum for 3 year olds to Third Graders, is committed to academic excellence and multiculturalism, and who understands the social and emotional growth and development of young children.
