Title: SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS: Chinese, Spanish & Japanese Immersion Language for (EARLY CHILDHOOD)
Department: Faculty Reports to: Head of Early Childhood (grades Pre-k Low-K, K & Aides) Status: Hourly Duration: As needed throughout the school term Schedule: Follows the class and school schedule 7:30 AM- 4:00 PM (As needed). This position is located on-site at School campus.

We are interviewing now & hiring for dynamic Substitute Language Immersion Teachers at The International School to assist as needed throughout the school year!
The International School in downtown Portland, OR has immediate Substitutes openings for Chinese, Spanish & Japanese Immersion Early Childhood Teachers with native level fluency in any of these languages. The International School provides a warm multicultural environment where our Early Childhood students are fully immersed in Spanish, Japanese or Chinese language and culture. Our Early Childhood Language Immersion Substitute teachers will use the target language throughout the day while engaged with students.

We are seeking substitute teachers who are passionate about and committed to the mission and vision of The International School and able to demonstrate the values and traits of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program and Learner Profile while teaching and working.
The ideal candidate will be dedicated to meeting the needs of diverse student learners, as well as, committed to being a collaborative team player who can work together with students, colleagues, the administrative team, and parents/community.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
During peak activity periods, this position may require working in excess of 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week.
Capable of quickly traveling to multiple locations on school campus including up and down hills, lifting or otherwise carrying 40 pounds, traveling up/down flights of stairs, standing and sitting for long durations, typing for continuous hours on a computer keyboard, and reading information on a computer screen.
Ability to handle the physical demands of working with children ages three through five
Native level fluency in the Chinese, Japanese or Spanish language
At least 1 year experience teaching preschool or elementary school-age children
A Bachelor's degree in Education or Elementary/Early Childhood Education is preferred
Knowledge and understanding of Inquiry Based-Primary Years Program pedagogy is a plus
Experience teaching an immersion program
Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
Experience using technology in the classroom
Candidates offered a position must be able to pass a background check through Oregon Child Care Division
Candidates offered a position must provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.

Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Teaching/Education or equivalent experience
Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English
Native level fluency in the target language along with demonstrated ability to teach the target language
At least 1 year of professional teaching experience in a language immersion classroom
