Description of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce: The Chamber staff, its Board of Directors, Executive Committee and hundreds of volunteers are the city’s leading advocates for a vibrant business climate. The Chamber continuously strives to develop goals and objectives based on member input; utilizing these ideas to conduct and host dozens of events, which promote economic growth and an attractive quality of life. Our various councils and committees are extremely active in developing programs to help our member businesses become more successful, and we take pride in promoting business, education, tourism and the cultural arts.
Job Summary: The President is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce (“Chamber”) and is responsible for the day-to-day operations and implementation of the policies and programs established by the Chamber’s Board of Directors.
Minimum Qualifications and Education Required:
Minimum 10 years’ experience, including demonstration of success as a senior leader in a Chamber.
Proven experience recruiting, developing, motivating, leading and retaining a strong, diverse staff in a team-oriented environment; an effective delegator.
Proven industry knowledge of non-profit governance.
Proven experience with not-for-profit finances including budgets, monthly statements, etc.
Proven experience in growing membership of an organization.
Proven experience leading large-scale fundraising campaigns.
Proven success in planning and executing both community and member focused events.
Proven success in developing and maintaining lasting relationships with members and community leaders.
Must be able to work a non-traditional schedule.
Essential/Primary Job Duties:
Establishes a clear vision for continued growth and expansion for Amarillo Chamber of Commerce.
Set a standard for professionalism characterized by competency, collaboration and ethical behavior.
Work with organization’s leadership, volunteers and staff to implement the plan of work.
Work with allies including investors, other nonprofits, educators, political subdivisions and associations.
Able to make and maintain strong relationships with Chamber members and the overall business community.
Must possess a strong ability to reason quickly and be able to shift attention to priority situations as necessary; must be able to reason and interact with volunteers and other staff members to assist in the timely problem resolution process.
Carry out the role, goals and mission of the organization, as expressed through bylaws, policies, resolutions and actions of the directors.
Work with the board of directors to shape the organization through strategic planning; reviewing and revising bylaws; reviewing and revising policies and recommending officer, director and committee nominees.
Create and implement an annual plan of work.
Review all contracts to which the organization is a party and make a recommendation to directors on those contracts.
Provide executive level supervision to manage the finances of the chamber including the development of an annual budget.
In partnership with the Board of Directors, develop and execute annual fundraising strategy to sustain and increase support from corporations, events, foundations and individuals.
Leads community outreach and networking efforts to implement the annual development plan includes fundraising activities and grant requests.
Manages grants and reporting requirements; providing necessary documentation.
Hire, supervise, develop & evaluate staff.
Determine employee compensation.
Create and implement a management succession plan.
Engage in the legislative process on chamber issues.
Cause members to become active on chamber issues.
Create legislative agendas.
Represent the organization to the community, membership, and the general public.
Serve as the organization’s spokesman for all media inquiries.
Develop business targeting strategies.
Develop and implement strategic plans and tactical marketing plans to achieve the Chamber’s goals.
Work closely with the Board and staff to meet membership goals, including strategies for recruitment, onboarding and retention.
Defines and demonstrates a compelling value proposition to grow and retain Chamber membership.
Leads the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies for member recruitment, retention, stewardship and engagement.
