The Chapin School seeks a dynamic, knowledgeable, collaborative, and joyful math teacher who will join our Middle School Math Department immediately to teach 4th grade (Chapin's Middle School comprises Grades 4–7).
Master’s degree and teaching experience, especially with elementary-school-aged children preferred. Ideal candidates possess strong knowledge of child development, and experience with various approaches to math pedagogy. The ideal candidate will enjoy the exuberance and curiosity of children and want to build a community where diverse perspectives are valued.
Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational skills, flexibility, and a passion for working with 9-and 10-year olds. Solid collaboration skills are critical as this position requires working closely with the 4th-grade team of teachers on interdisciplinary, integrated efforts. Ideal candidates are reflective about their practice and avail themselves of professional development and leadership opportunities.
Chapin is committed to cultivating in our students the skills and habits of mind to be mathematical thinkers. Inquiry and student-centered curriculum development are at the core of our efforts. We believe all students can be mathematicians and apply a growth mindset to the study of math. Our goal is to develop deep conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills that gradually result in procedural fluency. The work of Jo Boaler is important to our efforts.

UNDER ONE ROOF
Chapin’s single building provides a unified learning environment under one roof for all students, the 128 faculty members who teach them and the 85 staff members who support all other aspects of school life. An ambitious construction project to be completed in 2020 will feature an entire floor dedicated to the arts and a gymnasium with suspended running track—all with spectacular views of our urban location. The Hayot Center for Innovation, to open in 2020, will provide our entire learning community the opportunity to extend our commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry-based investigations and explorations, deepening students’ interests through experimentation, invention and the development of out-of-the-box solutions to complex issues.
