The Pingry School seeks a dynamic and intellectually engaging Middle School / Upper School Visual Arts Teacher—Leave Replacement, to join a diverse academic community. This faculty member will teach a Middle School drawing, painting, and printmaking studio class, a Middle School beginning Filmmaking class, and two Upper School Art Fundamentals classes which serve as an introduction to 2D and 3D principles. The Visual Arts department thrives by being a community of artists who teach, looking for candidates who are completely committed to teaching and also to their own individual active artistic practice. The department curriculum draws from the richness of the contemporary art world. The ideal candidate is committed to guiding young people as they construct their understanding of visual arts in a student-centered classroom environment. Qualifications and Requirements:
Possess knowledge of the disciplinary core ideas in both studio art and beginning filmmaking
Capacity to incorporate independent and cooperative group learning experiences in the study and creation of art
Dedication to integrating art with other curriculum subjects in a multidisciplinary approach
Commitment to work cooperatively with other faculty members in the department
Filmmaking will require knowledge of Adobe Premiere pro or an equivalent transferable skill set
Possess outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Candidates must also be able to work with students both in-person and remotely. Have the flexibility to meet every student's needs in an environment in which students may pivot between in-person and online learning (Pingry Anywhere) potentially on a day to day basis
The candidate should also be comfortable with incorporating the latest technology, including online learning, into their classroom activities.
A bachelor’s degree is required; post-undergraduate work or Master’s Degree and previous classroom teaching experience are preferred.
