We are looking for someone who can teach Mon-Wed 9:00—11:00am CST and/or M-W 1:00-2:30pm CST immediately. We would be thrilled to find someone who can cover all of these classes (see below) or some of them. We would also be thrilled to find someone who has flexibility should the schedule (times/days of the week) shift later this school year.
We are open to a range of total number of hours a week. If you are looking for more of a full-time position and have a general tech background and can help with tech needs across the school (chromebook management, hardware, solving tech issues for students and teachers, etc), we may be able to accommodate a full-time schedule. On the other hand, if you are looking for part time or would rather teach only one class, let us know.
Teach weekly Computer Science/Coding classes to small groups of elementary and middle schoolers. Classes are typically about 12 kids and are either 90min or 120 min.
Design instruction for all classes; most classes focus on Python but at least one is currently focused on web development.
Teach virtually (as of now). CS classes will likely be virtual all year but we would also welcome flexibility in this area. If you can teach in person should we need an in-person Computer Science teacher, that would be helpful.
Collect and analyze multiple forms of evidence of growth in understanding; report evidence of learning and growth of skills as per Long-View’s assessment process. We do not “grade” at Long-View but instead collect “artifacts” of learners’ work and analyze those artifacts for evidence of skill growth.
Deep knowledge of Python at the least; preferably a broader background in other languages so we have flexibility to stretch the curriculum over time.
Interest in developing an academically rigorous curriculum.
Passion around engaging children in learner-centered experiences.
A collaborative working style.
Excellent communication skills.
Desire to cultivate computational thinking skills in young learners and plant the seeds for further exploration of the field of computer science as kids matriculate into high school and college.
2 openings. Telecommuting is allowed.
About Long-View Micro School
Innovation in education lies on the periphery of most schools and educationally-oriented organizations. Not at Long-View. Innovation and creation are the core of what we do. Each day is different because each day we are thinking about how to design learning experiences that ensure that young learners are growing their capacities to create, communicate, collaborate, and think critically.
Working at Long-View may involve working within our micro school. It may involve leading professional development for educators across the globe. Or it may involve content creation, strategy, and business development. We are a busy, growing organization and opportunity abounds.
A few thoughts on working in our school: We know that classroom educators, in particular, are often isolated and have very little time to collaborate, learn with colleagues, and innovate. At our micro school, we are building exactly the opposite experience. We strive to make collaboration integral to our work environment. Long-View educators are creators, innovators, and idea-generators, and are part of the team in taking Long-View to the next level.
