Position Summary: The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for advancing the programs that build financial support for The Haverford School, particularly from parents, alumni, grandparents and parents of alumni. More specifically, the Major Gifts Officer will identify, cultivate, steward and solicit major gift prospects for leadership pledges and gifts to The Haverford Fund of $2,500+ and solicit pledges and gifts of $100,000+ for capital, endowment and other initiatives. Familiarity or experience with the PA Tax Credit Program (EITC/OSTC) is a plus. Experience working with alumni or parent leadership committees and groups is also a plus. Effective execution of duties will require close collaboration with all members of the Palmer House team, and cooperation with senior school leadership, departments and key volunteers. Evening and weekend activities are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide support in soliciting major gifts and collaborate with the Headmaster, Director of Development, Capital Gifts Officer and other members of Palmer House as needed.
Responsible for soliciting Haverford Fund gifts of $2,500+ multi-year pledges and gifts of $100,000+ from assigned prospects.
Manage relationships with approximately 150-200 prospective donors and identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward these significant donors who are alumni, parents, grandparents and friends of Haverford.
Work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, Palmer House staff, and other Haverford representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for mission-based priorities.
Monitor all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations. Enter all significant moves into the Senior Systems database.
Work with the Director of Alumni Relations to help coordinate and plan Five Year Class Reunions as assigned and assist with Regional Alumni and other events as needed.
Work with alumni and parent leadership committees and groups as needed.
Create engagement and solicitation plans for assigned major gifts prospects.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree
At least five years of successful experience in Major Gifts fundraising
Demonstrated mastery of fundraising techniques and skills in all aspects of development, including working closely with leadership groups and stakeholders, strategic cultivation and solicitation of major gifts, annual giving solicitation, planned giving, reunions, and special events
Familiarity with The Haverford School’s educational mission and objectives
A proven track record of building and refining programs and transforming organizations to improve their overall success
Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with a wide variety of constituencies, both inside and outside the School
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
Effective communication skills, both oral and written
Experience with using metrics to establish goals and measure results
Technical skills, including Microsoft word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google/Gmail, and other applications
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
Be able to occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.
Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment.
Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
