If that sounds exciting to you, please read on… The University of Texas Golf Club is looking for a talented Assistant Superintendent to join our dynamic team. This is a management position within the operation, and is one that you will be tested and challenged daily. You will have a direct reporting line to the Golf Course Superintendent, but will work alongside the Sr. Assistant Superintendent, 1st Assistant, and the rest of the management team. In this role you will have a direct impact on all golf course maintenance operations and be expected to perform at a high level in a very challenging climate. This position will be a learning position. But, your leadership skills will be challenged and forged as well. You will be expected to lead small and large crews, but also be a follower when necessary. Leadership is fluid, and you must know your role in every situation. The Assistant Superintendent will aid in the development and leadership of an assistant-in-training (AIT), eighteen full-time turf technicians, Arborist team and seasonal interns. We are seeking individuals with high mental and physical aptitude. We want thinkers, innovators, and ones that can solve problems efficiently and effectively. The individual chosen will be held to a high standard of excellence, and develop with the team and within the operation before moving on to a superintendent position of their own. The Club, and myself want nothing more than to mentor up-and-coming talent that have their goals set on becoming a successful golf course superintendent. Promoting a positive work/life balance is essential for your physical/mental health, the productivity at the golf course, and the people you will lead. Previous golf course or sports field experience is required. At minimum, the individual applying should have completed two internships or equivalent course work. Please send me a professional resume, cover letter and references attached. It is ok if you do not know everything, I do not expect you to. We are here to train and develop you, and build upon essential, fundamental skill to ensure you are progressing, learning and moving forward. The more responsibility you show you can handle, the more you will be given. Basic job duties will consist of irrigation scheduling/repair, the calibration/application of chemicals & fertilizers, employee scheduling, supervision and training, record keeping, and assisting in the overall agronomic plan and execution. We are a fast paced club with a lot of moving components, with even higher expectations from our membership and golf teams. This is a challenging climate with a lot of weather extremes. It is not uncommon to have weeks, if not months, with triple digit heat. You must be willing to endure the seasonality of the job and perform at a high standard every day. A get it done attitude is essential. |
