The Middle School seeks an Eighth Grade Physical Sciences teacher to begin the week of November 16, 2020. This teacher will lead four sections of an introductory level Physical Science class which focuses on force, motion and Newton’s Laws, as well as classification of matter, physical and chemical properties, and physical and chemical changes. The curriculum for this course is project-based and emphasizes collaboration, writing evidence-based conclusions and creating and reading graphs. The ideal candidate is passionate about Science and is eager to support middle school-aged students in learning how to take an active role in their own learning.

Teach four sections of 8th grade Science both in-person and potentially remotely via Zoom.
Successfully engage and develop student’s interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter
Serve as an advisor for 8-10 students
Participate in extra/co-curricular program as a coach or club supervisor
Provide supervision during recess, in study hall and at other times during the school day, as needed

Bachelor’s degree in Science and/or Science education required. Masters preferred
Prior teaching experience with middle school-aged students
Understanding of and desire to work with middle school students
Familiar with and/or willing to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
Proficient in the use of technology
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
