The Pinnacle School, a private, special education day school for college-bound students in grades 2 through 12. The Special Education Teacher will provide high quality, data-driven instruction to students aligned with the school’s mission and philosophy. Teachers will differentiate curriculum to support students’ learning styles and current achievement levels. Teachers will cultivate open and positive lines of communication with students and parents regarding academic, social and emotional progress and development, as well as maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues.
The Pinnacle School enables students with language-based learning differences to thrive through small class sizes, differentiated instruction, active problem-solving and relationship building. Candidates will be joining a robust and collaborative team of highly trained clinicians and teachers with expertise in special education, school counseling, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and classroom and behavior management. Instructional Planning, Teaching and Practices
Differentiate curriculum to support students’ learning styles and current achievement levels
Provide clear goals and objectives for each student; create written reports and report cards for each student
Teach content and skills to assigned students utilizing common core aligned curriculum and approved courses of study
Develop strategies for maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning and utilize effective teaching methods; employ a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to the maturity, interests, and needs of each student
Identify need for diagnostic testing, identify student capabilities and monitor student progress on a regular basis to ensure that goals are being met
Maintain accurate and complete student records and complete all recordkeeping/ administrative responsibilities on time as required by law and Pinnacle policies
Consult and collaborate with colleagues and outside professionals
Establish and maintain positive relationships with students based upon trust and mutual respect Relationship with Students, Parents and Staff
Establish and maintain open and positive lines of communication with students and parents concerning academics and social and emotional needs; communicate with parents regarding student progress at regular intervals
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with school personnel

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education; Master’s degree preferred
Valid Connecticut state endorsement 165-Special Education: Comprehensive, grades k-12
Minimum 2 years experience teaching special education student populations with language-based learning differences
Emphasis on experience teaching strategic and remedial math classes
Familiar with the IEP process and the collection of progress monitoring data
Commitment to helping children of all abilities reach their full potential

Additional Salary Information: Additional $3,000 for working ESY!
