Trevor Day School is a co-educational, Nursery -12th grade school in Manhattan. Trevor is seeking a Head Kindergarten Teacher for a leave replacement position beginning January 2021. The Head Kindergarten teacher is responsible for the homeroom life of approximately 14 students. They plan, implement, and review curricula. Working closely with an associate teacher, they establish a sense of community for the students and their families. Working in conjunction with our other Kindergarten teaching team, they implement a developmentally appropriate academic program consisting of phonemic awareness work, early reading skills, early math skills, as well as an established science and social studies curriculum.
Planning lessons and tailoring instruction to meet students’ individual needs, based on classroom scope and sequence
Collaborating closely with grade-level teachers and specialists regarding grade-level curriculum and student progress
Coordinating with faculty, administration, parents, and outside support specialists to best support student growth
Communicating student progress and goals through family conferences, home reports, meetings with parents, and emails home
A Master’s degree (completed or in process) and at least three years of experience as a head teacher
Understanding of early childhood development and how a child transitions into the school environment
Warm and positive demeanor

Passion for the craft of teaching
Experience in implementing academic curriculum at the Kindergarten level
Interest in the development and implementation of social and emotional curriculum
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

Interest in social justice, diversity, and inclusivity
