The Blake School seeks a creative sixth through eighth grade English teacher who is eager to help students read and write with rigor, insight and imagination. Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that makes a community strong and empowers students to engage across differences. This teacher will work closely with one sixth and another eighth grade English teacher in a hybrid teaching and learning mode to assure a smooth transition for students during a parental leave. It is essential this candidate be able and willing to teach both in the classroom with students present and in a remote learning mode as the need arises. While day-to-day lesson planning, teaching, and paper feedback and grading will be the responsibility of this teacher, most aspects of curriculum and assessment design will follow those of the team to assure as much consistency of student experience as possible. This candidate will meet weekly with each grade level team and collaborate regularly with the department chair in support of these objectives. In addition to classroom instruction, this teacher will confer during tutorial or other agreed-upon times with each of the students about their writing, meet with grade-level teams, hold winter conferences with parents, support students within our advisory program and participate in regular faculty meetings and school initiatives. This position involves teaching four sections of sixth and one section of eighth grade English for at least eight weeks this winter (Jan. 4-Feb. 26, 2021).
The search committee welcomes applications through December 11.
