Sacred Heart Academy is seeking a long-term substitute to teach Kindergarten in its Lower School Division beginning January, 2020 until June 10, 2021. We are looking for a creative, energetic, and compassionate teacher who can engage students, encourage curiosity, and create an inviting, nurturing environment.
The ideal applicant:
Utilizes innovative and creative approaches, using varied strategies including project-based assignments/projects to help students expand and build upon previous skills developed.
Plans and implements a program of engaging and challenging classroom learning opportunities for literature-based language arts, mathematics, and science.
Encourages students to take personal responsibility for their learning and creates an environment where each student is able to develop a positive academic mindset learning to persevere and take risks.
Maintains partnerships with parents and facilitates open and effective communication with families.
Employs effective classroom management techniques to create a productive learning environment where students build positive relationships, recognize and manage their emotions, and choose appropriate behaviors as they learn and grow as a Child of the Sacred Heart.
Participates in division and faculty meetings, in-service days, and committee meetings.
Maintains an active commitment to professional growth and development.
Lower School faculty are required to perform supervisory duties (e.g., recess, lunch, etc.).
Due to COVID-19, all applicants need to be prepared to teach in-person and completely virtually using Google Meet sessions, the school portal, SEESAW and other online platforms.
BA or BS in elementary education or related field
Experience teaching in an elementary classroom
Proficiency with project-based instruction
Experience implementing educational technology
Experience in a Catholic, independent school environment
Master’s degree in education or related field
Experience with Wilson Reading, Just Words, or Fundations
