DESCRIPTION: Looking ahead to anticipated needs, St. Paul’s School invites applications for the position of Teacher of Spanish. Should this position become available, duties would begin late August 2021. The St. Paul’s School Language Department requires students to not only master the mechanics of another language but also to immerse themselves in the arts, traditions, and customs of those who speak it. Under the direction of the faculty – and aided by the multimedia Language Center – students come to understand different ways of thinking and living. The result is a consciousness that is truly global. Extensive offerings are provided in four modern languages – Chinese, French, German, and Spanish – and in Latin and Greek, taught for beginners through a multitude of courses for advanced students.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The primary responsibility will be to teach classes of introductory and more advanced levels of Spanish at the secondary level. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment working with other Spanish teachers, with the faculty of the languages department, and with the broader faculty in advancing the mission of the School and the commitment to teaching and learning in a holistic educational environment. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching Spanish language and culture and have an understanding of boarding school life.
The faculty member will be responsible for the following teaching tasks: • Teach four classes from beginning through advanced levels. • Use on-line resources and other technology to enhance language learning. • Promote the study of languages at St. Paul’s School through activities outside the classroom. • Possess knowledge of current trends in pedagogy and scholarship.

Education: MA (or higher) preferred in language of instruction with some ability to teach advanced Spanish literature courses.
Experience: Teaching language at the secondary level (minimum of five years). Ability to teach all levels of the language. Experience in using on-line resources and other technology. Lively interest in literature, current pedagogy and scholarship. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish.
