Westtown School is seeking a part-time assistant teacher for our Middle School, beginning January 11, 2021. The assistant teacher will support the middle school program by partnering with faculty on the social-emotional curriculum, assisting with shared responsibilities, and stepping in as a substitute teacher, if needed. Responsibilities may include assisting with arrival and departure, working with homerooms, supervising outdoor recess, overseeing lunch, and assisting in the classroom. Qualified candidates must be collaborative, proactive, and flexible to the various emerging needs of the school.

The ideal candidate should have 1-3 years experience working with lower or middle school age children. The daily schedule will be 7:45 am to 2:45 pm. Familiarity with Quaker education, interdisciplinary curriculum, project work, and anti-bias curriculum are a plus.
Experience working with lower and/or middle school age students;
Understanding of the academic and social-emotional development of students in grades 6-8;
Ability to be flexible, effectively manage stress, and adapt to changing work priorities and assignments;
A strong character with a team-oriented spirit, and the ability to connect meaningfully with students throughout our diverse community;
A deep commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices;
Strong affinity for the mission of Westtown School and an educational philosophy consistent with the school’s Quaker values.
