Working closely with the Head of Middle School, Middle School Leadership Team, Grade Level Teams, and Counseling Department colleagues, the Middle School Counselor teaches character education classes to middle school students and serves as the go-to resource for social and emotional needs for all middle school students.
Anticipated dates of employment: March 1, 2021 through June 1, 2021
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
A master’s degree and/or certification in counseling
Understanding of the development needs of middle school students/early adolescents
Experience and success working directly with middle school students/early adolescents
Proven ability to work with multiple types of students and families
Understanding of the needs of students in a challenging school environment
Knowledge of and experience with effective implementation of character education curriculum
Middle school classroom teaching experience preferred
Flexibility, optimism, creativity, high expectations, and a growth mindset
Proven positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and families
Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral
Good listening skills
Understanding of independent schools preferred
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide information, support, and guidance to students, parents, and teachers in an effort to promote student emotional health
Serve as faculty advisor to about ten middle school students
Coach or supervise an athletic or academic team and/or facilitate a club
Serve as a member of the Counseling Department, attending departmental meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the student life team
Support the school, its mission, and its leadership
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
