St. Paul Academy and Summit School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for students in kindergarten through grade 12. For additional information, please visit our website at www.spa.edu. St. Paul Academy and Summit School seeks candidates for an Upper School Counselor. This is a full-time position beginning in August 2021. Aligned with our mission statement, we seek to achieve ongoing excellence in academics by also tending to the environments and mindsets that allow students to engage with and work through challenges in healthy and productive ways. St. Paul Academy and Summit School strives to support students in the development of skills that promote wellness and balance in the context of our school program, and to teach strategies for persevering through developmental challenges that accompany learning and growing. The counselors are an integral part of the Administrative Team and may provide consultative services to the student support team, classroom teachers, and parents and guardians. This position will work in collaboration with the Upper School Leadership to develop a cohesive and developmentally informed social/emotional, wellness and health program for grades 9-12; focus areas include seminars in chemical health, mental health, stress-management, relationships, and sexual health. Successful candidates will have extensive experience working in high school settings to provide direct counseling services, to facilitate student groups, to provide parent and teacher education, and to serve as a liaison for community mental health and medical professionals. Additional experience in clinical settings preferred. In addition, successful candidates should demonstrate the ability to establish a supportive and engaging environment for students and to work collaboratively with parents/guardians. They will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and have experience and a desire to work within diverse communities and across cultural difference. Candidates should be able to advise students effectively and otherwise contribute to the life of the school outside the classroom. Candidates should support the mission of SPA and the vision of the Upper School. Requirements: Master’s Degree in counseling, social work, school psychology, or a related field.
