Oakwood School
Oakwood School in Northern Virginia is now accepting applications for teachers with appropriate training to serve Elementary to Middle School students with learning disabilities. Teacher licensure, eligibility for Provisional licensure in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, or a related field is required. A graduate degree is preferred. The Oakwood team-teaching model requires good communication and professional collaboration skills to provide the best educational experience for our students. A basic understanding of multisensory teaching methods, diverse learning styles, and specific strategies for teaching students with learning needs and dyslexia is required. Some training can be provided to a motivated candidate. Since the beginning of the school year, Oakwood has had in-person classes. There are a small number of students who need to learn at-home; these students participate in the classes via a concurrent model- Zooming into classes in the building and being included in the classroom environment. Knowledge of Google Classroom, Zoom, and other applications is helpful; support and training are available. An appropriate candidate will also demonstrate positive classroom management techniques for students with attentional issues, processing challenges, dysgraphia, and language-based learning disabilities. Oakwood School is dedicated to helping each child reach his/her potential. While our mission is serious and requires commitment, our warm, nurturing environment provides the support to enable our staff to make a difference in the lives of children.
