Role Summary Supervise and participate in the work of employees engaged in the maintenance of Park and Recreation Board golf courses to fulfill the organizations mission in serving the community. Provide golf course turf maintenance that meet the park and recreation needs of diverse communities and ensure race equity, gender inclusion and universal access. Mission Statement The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board shall permanently preserve, protect, maintain, improve, and enhance its natural resources, parkland, and recreational opportunities for current and future generations. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board exists to provide places and recreation opportunities for all people to gather, celebrate, contemplate, and engage in activities that promote health, well-being, community, and the environment. Duties Performs under the general supervision of the Golf Operations Manager and is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties: Essential Duties: - Responsible for planning, coordinating and prioritizing the work of subordinate staff and evaluate results to ensure that expectations of the customers that patronize facilities are met.
- Assist MPRB in identifying and addressing the park and recreation needs of underserved and under-represented communities.
- Develop and administer a comprehensive turf management program.
- Direct and inspect the work of crews engaged in the maintenance activities on golf course including irrigation, fertilization, pesticide applications, grooming turf, maintaining hazards normally found on golf courses including ponds, sand traps and wildlife areas.
- Monitor, inspect and if necessary, corrects turf conditions.
- Responsible for applying fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides and fungicides in a safe, specific and calibrated manner in accordance with product labels and MPRB established policies.
- Effectively document and inventory pesticide and fertilizer usage as required by the State of Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board.
- Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, develop and discipline subordinate employees for development of a professional and support staff with a high degree of competence and sound judgment.
- Create a work environment that encourages staff to perform to the best of their abilities and holds every employee accountable for results.
- Coordinate, communicate, and interact with various MPRB trades and general contractors on golf course projects.
- Plan, develop and monitor yearly budgets for golf course.
- Inspect equipment for safety and monitor equipment use; make adjustments to equipment used to ensure well-groomed turf in different applications throughout the golf course.
- Communicate with Golf Course Manager and golf patron on a daily basis to keep them informed of projects and turf conditions. Keep updated on upcoming events and customer concerns and makes corrections to current practices if concerns warrant.
- Develop, implement, prioritize and review capital improvement projects; plans direct and inspect the work of contractors and crews performing special projects on the golf courses.
- Foster and demonstrate effective leadership building in a collaborative environment including working across unit lines and forming partnerships that foster better services; eliminate barriers to achieving results; take full advantage of available resources; and provide input in the development of short and long range plans.
- Evaluate programs, activities and services to ensure they are meeting planned objectives using best practices.
- Enforce Park Board policies, procedures and work/safety rules in a fair and equitable manner. Conduct regular inspections on quality of work completed and follow-up with staff on work.
- Establish and maintain an effective, respectful, and productive work environment and encourage professional development for all employees.
- Courteously respond to the public inquiries as needed in areas of responsibility.

- Respond effectively and in a timely manner to administrative requests.
- Serve actively on MPRB committees to ensure that safety, maintenance, planning and recreation services complement and support each other in addressing community interests, issues and needs, and are in alignment with the mission, vision, values, goals and objectives of the MPRB.
- Keep the department director promptly informed of matters as they relate to the unit, department and MPRB.
