Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is searching for a Lower School Spanish Teacher for the 2021-22 school year. Calvert School is dedicated to educating girls and boys through its time-tested method of teaching and its rigorous curriculum. Particular emphasis is given to mastering essential skills, inspiring a lifelong love of learning, and instilling enthusiasm, responsibility and self-discipline. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland, accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
The Teacher will teach Spanish to lower school students in grades Kindergarten through Fourth Grade and will serve on the foreign language team. The foreign language curriculum at Calvert is designed to awaken a child's curiosity and interest in a new language, while providing a solid foundation for further study in Middle School. Students begin learning the language in Kindergarten (Fifth Age) through songs, finger plays, stories and hands-on projects. The culture of Spanish-speaking countries, especially holidays and artists, are emphasized throughout the program. In addition to teaching, faculty members are also expected to contribute to the Calvert community as coaches, club advisors, and serve on school committees on occasion.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree with prior experience teaching Spanish to elementary aged students. A Master’s degree is preferred. Candidates must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
