William Penn Charter School, a co-ed, PreK-12 independent Quaker day school, seeks a full-time General Music teacher for the 2021-22 school year. Applicants must possess an undergraduate or graduate degree in Music Education and three to five years of experience teaching lower school general music classes. The Music Education teacher will teach general music to lower school students including vocal music, movement, and various musical instruments. Prior experience with Orff is strongly preferred.

The successful candidate will embrace student-centered pedagogy, model curiosity and a desire for professional growth, and exhibit a willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues.  Additionally, they will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching practice and in building relationships with all members of our community. Familiarity with the principles and practices of Quakerism and Quaker education as well as Responsive Classroom is highly desirable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teaches general music to Pre-K through Grade 5 students including vocal music, movement, Orff instruments and various musical instruments, recorders, theory, appreciation, history, and ensemble.
• Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
• Provides opportunities for music ensembles through vocal music and classroom instruments..
• Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community (winter concert, spring concert and ensemble opportunities throughout the year).
• Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
• Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
• Develops and refines music curriculum based on researched standards of creating, performing, and responding.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
• Evaluates each student’s musical growth and contribution to the overall group performance ensuring every student's participation.
• Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
• Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
• Partners with the administration and staff to provide musical programs for school assemblies, open houses, parent meetings and seasonal programs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• Minimum BA in Music or Music Education
• Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels
• Strong instrumental skills, including piano accompaniment
• Orff training strongly encouraged, but training will be available for the selected candidate
