St. Stephen's Episcopal School, a day and boarding school of 690 students (grades 6-12), is seeking a Middle and Upper School Latin Teacher for a full-time position beginning August 1, 2021.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, enthusiastic, and dynamic teacher with a willingness and ability to teach all levels of Latin from 6th grade Introductory Latin through advanced literature study. St. Stephen’s teachers value maximizing the student experience, can think creatively about pedagogy, and seek out ways to become involved in all areas of school life. The Latin teacher will work closely with the Classical Languages Department chair in designing the curriculum and building a healthy and vigorous program. The school is looking for candidates who utilize a variety of teaching methods, are technologically proficient, and who love working closely with energetic students and a dedicated faculty. 

Teaching and Other responsibilities:

• Teach four to five sections of Latin classes.

• Advise a group of six to eight students who meet with their advisor on a daily basis.

• Contribute to two other areas of school life, including athletic or extracurricular programs.

• Attend Chapel, proctor study halls, and participate in a family-style lunch program.

• Advise and support the Latin Club and participate in the local chapter of the NJCL.

Curricular responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Department Chair on the continued development of the grades 6-12 Latin curricula.

• Help ensure that course catalogue descriptions, curriculum maps, and departmental policy statements are current and accurate.

• Assist with textbook selections for courses with the Chair.

• Envision ways to expand/enhance the Classical Languages curriculum within and across divisions.

Faculty growth and development:

• Participate in the faculty growth and development programs.

• Seek out professional development opportunities for continued personal and professional growth.

Qualified candidates will be multifaceted teachers with experience in a similar role. They will also have the following:

•  A  Bachelor’s degree in the Latin with a strong preference for graduate-level work.

• Demonstrated understanding of the developmental nuances associated with language learners in grades 6-12.
