Sheridan is seeking a 2nd Grade Teacher for the remainder of the school year with the potential to renew for next school year. We are looking for dynamic, collaborative, student-centered teachers with a background in and a passion for progressive, social-justice education. Candidates should feel comfortable with in-person on-campus teaching and remote, distance learning. In our current hybrid plan, Sheridan’s program integrates Reading and Writing Workshop, Math, Social Studies and Responsive Classroom into two classrooms with about 13 students each, split between two full-time, lead teachers and a program assistant. The successful candidate will have specific experience in early childhood education and progressive teaching methodologies as well as strong classroom management and communication skills. Additional responsibilities include regular communication with families, participation in department and staff meetings, and recess and dismissal duties several times a week. A high interest in and commitment to collaboration is a must. No standardized testing is administered and lunch is provided daily.

Sheridan is an independent, co-educational, K-8 school located in northwest Washington, DC, offering a progressive, concept-based curriculum that promotes social justice and utilizes Reading and Writing Workshop and Responsive Classroom. Each grade has about 25 students in one homeroom with two teachers. Departmental classes are taught in smaller sections outside of the homeroom by content specialists.
