Job Title: Director of Student-Athlete Health Services Division: Athletics Reports to: Dean of Athletics and Athletics Operations Director Job Description: King School is looking for a dynamic and experienced Director of Student-Athlete Health Services to fill a vital leadership role in the Athletics Department. This newly created full-time position will serve as our Head Athletic Trainer and manage all athletic training operations and athletic training staff. The director will also be responsible for the development of our athlete health services program in support of the overall health, safety, performance, and well-being of our diverse population of student-athletes in grades 6-12. This candidate must be an excellent leader, educator, and communicator, with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective, positive relationships and interactions with diverse groups of students, coaches, faculty, staff and parents, in order to be able to step into this exciting new role. As such, the director will play an important role in helping to advance the culture and direction of King Athletics. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Serve as the school’s Head Athletic Trainer, manages all athletic training operations and athletic training staff, including supplies and equipment purchasing and budgeting.
- Develop and implement innovative and creative programming to serve the health and welfare needs of our student-athletes, families, coaches, and staffulty as aligned with the Athletics and Wellness pillars of King School’s 2020-2025 Strategic Plan.
- Facilitate the growth and development of our student-athlete health services program, including establishing new directions and initiatives in supporting our student-athletes in the fields of nutrition, sports psychology/mental health, massage therapy, rehabilitation and modality techniques and advancements, performance assessment services, and other related areas.
- Execute and maintain effective communication about Athletics programming to all constituencies and implement related student-athlete, coach, parent, and staffulty programming and communications.
- Manage and oversee our concussion management protocols and return-to-play guidelines, in collaboration with school nurses.
- Work closely with Upper School and Middle School student support teams, members of our Teaching and Learning Department, and school nurses to consult and collaborate on supporting the return to academics and athletics for our injured athletes.
- Play an active role with Upper and Middle School leadership in developing life skills and health education programs, with possible teaching duties depending on the needs of the school.
- Oversee our strength and conditioning program, including collaborating with strength coaches to manage staffing, scheduling, and all fitness spaces and equipment on campus.
- Expectation and opportunity to provide ATC coverage for King School Summer Institute summer sports programs outside of general position responsibilities.
- Support Human Resources with the onboarding process for new coaches, the tracking of all coaching requirements, and help manage the annual employee CPR/First Aid training program.
- Support the outstanding work and efforts of the staffulty Health and Wellness Committee.
- Be an instrumental partner in the development and progression of the Facilities Master Plan in relation to athletic facilities and the re-imagining of our athletic training, athlete health service, athlete rehabilitation, and athlete injury prevention areas and spaces on campus.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Athletics.
Requirements and Skills: - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field.
- Must be Board of Certification (BOC) certified and possess, or be able to obtain, CT state athletic training licensure.
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) number required.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant athletic training and leadership experience at the secondary school, college, or pro level.
- Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per CT state licensure guidelines.
- Strong ability to uphold and promote the mission and philosophy of King Athletics, and work and function under the guidelines set forth by the State of CT, the Fairchester Athletic Association, and the New England Prep School Athletic Council.
- Demonstrated capacity to cultivate an environment conducive to the health and welfare of student-athletes and teams, and have the proven ability to develop and maintain effective, positive interactions with students, coaches, faculty, staff and parents.
- Possess a sound understanding of the intellectual and social-emotional developmental stages of adolescents.
- Ability and capacity to nurture student discovery, autonomy of thought, and skill development.
- Ability to organize and manage a series of student information platforms and systems, including, but not limited to: Google Classroom, Gmail, Zoom, and Magnus Health online and electronic medical records applications.
- Demonstrated cross-cultural competence--ability to effectively teach, learn, and engage in a multicultural environment with a diverse student body--in pedagogical practice and multicultural curriculum content.
- Demonstrated capacity in culturally responsive professional practices, excellent communication skills, and ability to constructively collaborate with colleagues.

Classifications: Full-time, exempt. This is an 11 month position, including some summer responsibilities, with formal duties generally beginning one week prior to the start of pre-season practices in August and going until one week after the last day of student classes in June.
