The Sonoma Valley Unified School District, Sonoma, California, Board of Education, is seeking a highly qualified and fully certified Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2021.
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, in collaboration with the California School Boards Association, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Governing Board in identifying and screening the candidates.
Location: 50 miles north of San Francisco
The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The Board developed the following desired characteristics:
An experienced ethical leader who is committed to and has demonstrated leadership in improving student achievement in public schools. Someone who is genuine,leads by example, and possesses the characteristics of integrity, courage, respect, transparency, and honesty.
A superintendent with passion who is engaged not only on our campuses but throughout the Sonoma community. A visible leader who has experience in connecting, working, and fostering mutual respect with staff and community leaders.
A consensus decision-maker who is able to both plan and implement short-range and long-range goals. One who can create a "learning environment "while serving as a change agent who can create support for change within the district. A leader who has high expectations as a superintendent, and also holds others accountable to the same level of expectation and results.
An effective communicator who listens and respects differing views and opinions. A person who effectively relates and understands diverse cultures and is skilled in problem-solving while able to multi-task effectively. A leader who believes in core values and has the courage and belief to follow those core values.
A manager who has some experience and understanding of school finance and has worked with the budget development process; A person who understands how to maintain and improve infrastructure, district technology, and facilities; a leader who participates in and promotes purposeful professional staff development and has experience in strategic planning.
An educational leader and equity champion who understands the unique needs of children, and a leader who recognizes effective governance as an asset to support district-led initiatives to support student learning for all students.
