Latin Teacher 9-12
Vermont Academy
Vermont Academy is nestled on four hundred fifty acres at the foothills of the Green Mountains in Saxtons River, Vermont, and has provided a supportive community and close personal attention to its students for 146 Years. Diversity is a core value at Vermont Academy. We are passionate about building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment for all students, staff, and faculty. We believe every member on our team enriches our diversity by exposing us to a broad range of ways to understand and engage with the world, identify challenges, and to discover, design, and deliver solutions. Vermont Academy seeks a part-time Latin teacher who is passionate about teaching the Latin language and Roman culture. The World Language department believes fully in the value of studying Latin as the root of many languages as well as science. Further, studying Latin strengthens our students' base in English grammar and introduces the study of logic, law, and government. The World Language department expects teachers in this setting to have a high level of energy, utilize varied activities and media in the classroom, and exhibit excellent organizational skills. The department also embraces the philosophy of backward design. Should a candidate be able to teach Spanish or French, this could potentially become a full-time position. Candidates with a background in coaching debate and/or model UN will get special consideration. The successful candidate will be an accomplished, innovative teacher with excellent interpersonal skills, organizational ability, and an enthusiasm for working with adolescents. The candidate would also be a part of the residential life program, lead or coach an afterschool program, and be an academic advisor. Teaching experience at the secondary level is preferred. Technical facility with Google Workspace, Zoom, and other software commonly used in schools is expected.
