Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Director, Academic Technologies for the School of Graduate Studies at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences.
The person in this position will be responsible for the identification, implementation and oversight of all technologies required to support the educational missions of SGS-BHS. Initial emphasis will be on instructional technologies that enable remote delivery of instruction at the graduate level, but all aspects of graduate training that require information technology are included. This person will work with SGS-BHS leadership to identify/implement new technologies to streamline activities, and with faculty and students to surmount challenges and identify and implement superior alternatives to current processes. This individual will be expected to cultivate and maintain fruitful relationships between the School and its academic partners; coordinate with other units within the University supporting academic technologies (OIT, other academic units, e.g.), and maintain effective collaborations within and outside of the University that enhance academic productivity, e.g. representing the School at relevant meetings, with business partners and colleagues.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Works with SGS-RBHS leadership, staff, and key university stakeholders to assess, develop and maintain a comprehensive suite of services that successfully support capacity and growth for onsite, remote, and hybrid learning platforms and technologies that optimize SGS-RBHS's resources and support a robust learning environment. This includes ongoing assessments of existing platforms, usage, scale, and resources available. Addresses need for SOPs, cross-functionality and system redundancies that reduce disruptions or negatively impact the remote and hybrid learning environments. Provides the deployment, provisioning, curation, and maintenance of learning tools for students and faculty that optimize ease of use.
Monitors new developments and current higher education best practices and incorporates those as appropriate into operational management and planning. Stays abreast of novel applications of learning technologies and the latest developments in learning technologies.
Assesses instructional technology constraints identified by instructors/students to more effectively apply technology or identify a more effective technology solution to further improve instruction and learning at the graduate level.
Executes complex, institution-wide deployments of technology solutions and services and assists in determining the most appropriate project implementation. Develops and manages projects and programs that support the educational needs of the University. These efforts typically require broad input from across the institution and perhaps outside of the University (contractors, vendors, peer institutions, others).
Leads Special Projects identified by the Unit Dean that require sophisticated knowledge of information technology.
Provides senior School leadership with strategic planning for the educational technologies area and execution, as needed, with primary emphasis on academic technologies, in addition to overall project(s) direction, and ad hoc needs. Includes, but not limited to gathering, synthesizing, analyzing and/or maintaining adequate data and accompanying analyses that inform individual faculty, departments, groups, and School parties in matters related to academic technologies and their effective application.
Works effectively both within the School as well as relevant campus and university offices to ensure high-quality, timely data is compiled and analyzed both for ad hoc and recurring needs of the School and School leadership.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in the sciences and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in information technology administration that includes academic technology delivery, development, and management.
Established capability to effectively identify and troubleshoot issues related to pedagogical and didactic learning platforms, especially remote and hybrid learning environments.
Demonstrated outstanding communication skills with a broad array of university and external parties, including senior faculty, institute and center directors, senior campus and University-level administration, vendors, and professional peers.
Evidenced ability to stay abreast of relevant current trends, policy and practice changes to ensure School learning community knowledge and utilization of most current and best practices and requirements.
