National Cathedral School (NCS) announces an opening for a part or full-time, long-term substitute to teach two sections of ninth-grade English beginning immediately. The candidate may also serve as a classroom facilitator to support teachers who are working remotely. The successful candidate will work as part of a team of English teachers on a set curriculum. The candidate will help students embrace a love of literature while fostering critical thinking and be committed to successful and developmentally appropriate teaching of writing. In addition, the candidate should have expert knowledge of the elements of literary analysis and writing mechanics; have a comprehensive understanding of and dedication to student-centered pedagogy and discussion-based classrooms; and maintain a challenging curriculum within a nurturing environment. The school expects candidates to have a willingness and ability differentiate instruction in the classroom. The NCS English department comprises a faculty of grades 4-12 and offers a challenging curriculum aimed at graduating students with impeccable writing and analytical skills.

Qualified candidates hold at least a bachelor’s degree in English, master’s degree preferred, and have pertinent teaching experience. Experience teaching online courses in a hybrid environment and the facility to manage two cohorts on students on and off campus is preferred. The candidate must be able to work in the school building four days each week. Instruction is delivered remotely on Wednesdays.
