Second Grade Teacher
We are seeking a resourceful, innovative, and nurturing second grade teacher to teach a cohort of 13 students as part of a vibrant second grade team. This is a full-time, exempt, and benefit eligible position. It is a ten-month position and reports to the Lower School Head.
Possess and utilize knowledge of best practices in elementary education, childhood development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion pedagogy to provide appropriate instruction
Develop and document curriculum to support foundational skill development, reflect student needs and interests, and continue school-wide initiatives, programs, and content scope and sequences
Foster a mission-aligned, inclusive classroom culture that honors differences and promotes parent engagement
Utilize anecdotal, informal and formal benchmark assessments to assess and monitor growth in all curriculum areas, particularly literacy skill development and math
Implement systems to document and identify student’s growth and development in order to differentiate instruction and set individual goals
Incorporate technology in the classroom in innovative and creative ways to enhance student learning
Communicate verbally and in writing sensitively, regularly, clearly, and honestly with parents, informally and through conferences and semester reports
Contribute to and benefit from working with colleagues
Participate enthusiastically in all aspects of an excellent school
Teach and exhibit our school’s six core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, caring, joy and excellence
Proactively prepare and pivot to online instruction when needed
Deep commitment to teaching through the lenses of diversity, equity and inclusion
Knowledge of second graders and their developmental progression
Thorough understanding of evidence-based, best instructional practices in all disciplines
Ability to develop and adapt curriculum in multiple subject areas
Establish and maintain strong home-school partnerships with families to ensure student success
Strong collegial and interpersonal skills
Commitment to collaboration
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Cultural competency based on experience and professional development in diversity, equity, and inclusion work
Teaching young elementary students required. Experience teaching second grade preferred
Training and/or experience with Guided Reading, Fundations, Singapore Math, and Writer’s Workshop preferred
