The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about a diversity of subject material, with an emphasis on Creative Writing pedagogy and practices, and with a background in literary analysis and a familiarity with World Literatures who can competently teach texts that and authors who wrestle from multiple perspectives with themes including but not limited to age, gender, race, socio-economic status, ability, sexual orientation, religion and ethnicity. Responsibilities include teaching a course load of 3 sections per semester; attending faculty meetings; and other shared upper school responsibilities. Ideal candidates have experience employing a range of pedagogical approaches and will be excited by the opportunity to teach a diverse student body in a values-based community. The ideal candidate has also demonstrated a commitment to addressing issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion within and outside the classroom. A passion for working with upper school students, a flexible attitude, a commitment to lifelong learning, and a sense of humor are essential. Requirements - Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred in English.
- Expertise in Creative Writing, Essay Writing, and World Literatures preferred
- Strong competency in teaching African American, Asian American, Queer, and/or Latin American & Caribbean Literatures also preferred
- An understanding of and commitment to cultural competency and how to support a diverse student population, especially through the teaching of texts and authors that wrestle from multiple perspectives with themes including but not limited to age, gender, race, socio-economic status, ability, sexual orientation, religion and ethnicity
- A minimum 2 years of relevant teaching experience, preferably with upper school students.
- Proficient with technology, including Smartboards, Google platform, and apps.
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
