CUSD is looking to identify our next superintendent. The successful candidate should have a proven track record as a confident and responsive leader who is an effective communicator.  Competitive and negotiable salary contingent upon professional qualifications and achievements as an educational leader.

The Governing Board has retained Dr. Valerie Pitts and Dr. Glen “Max” McGee with Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA) to recruit qualified candidates.  Any contact with board members, in an attempt to influence the selection process, will be considered a breach of professional ethics.

  • A successful track record of improving the academic achievement of all students;
  • A solid understanding and knowledge of state and district budgets;
  • A background as a classroom teacher, site and district administrator experience desirable;
  • A strong record of partnering with community groups;
  • High school experience desirable;
  • Unified school district experience desirable;
  • Curriculum and instructional leadership background desirable.

Carmel Unified School District (CUSD) is located on the Central California Coast and spans Carmel-by-the-Sea, Carmel Valley, Pebble Beach, and Big Sur.
