Responsibilities:

A highly developed sense of collaboration and a willingness to work with colleagues is required for this position. You will work closely with colleagues to make sure the School’s mission and goals are being met and that innovation is being brought to the classroom. You will have a large amount of autonomy in planning lessons and developing units and assessments. A commitment to teaching students how to write well, with the goal of publishing their work, is essential. A strong commitment to teaching a love of reading and writing is also key. The successful candidate will show an empathy for and a willingness to work with adolescent girls at this phase in their development.

Requirements:

• Ability and desire to teach any level of Upper and/or Middle School English
• Awareness of current trends in English instruction and a desire to evolve
• Intellectual curiosity depth and breadth of literary knowledge
• Commitment to teach and to assess writing
• Passion for reading and a commitment to developing that in students
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Facility with the use of technology (preferable Apple and iPad) in learning techniques
• A strong sense of community involvement and collegiality
• Strong work ethic (timely adherence to deadlines and ability to self motivate)
• Attend and participate in faculty and department meetings
• Collaborate with colleagues on lesson planning and curriculum development
• Maintain active communication with students and their parents regarding academic progress
• Assist and collaborate in the guidance of problem-solving for students
• Meet departmental deadlines and goals
• Serve as an academic advisor to students
• Attend required community events including but not limited to evening banquets, concerts and community dinners
• Participate in assigned weekend team duties
• Coach or direct a co-curricular
• Exhibit a high degree of flexibility and adaptability
• Participate in personal and professional development
• Carry out other duties as assigned
