The Twin Hills Union School District Board of Trustees is seeking a superintendent who will provide leadership to ensure that all of the district’s students receive an exemplary and well-rounded educational experience in the environment that best matches their needs. The new superintendent will be an experienced instructional leader who has proven management skills and expertise serving as a team-builder and consensus leader. The successful candidate will have the ability to:

• Be an active, visible leader who values interactions with students, staff, and the community
• Collaborate with staff from all school sites to unify goals across the district
• Maintain the fiscal stability of the district and secure new grant resources
• Apply creative ideas and innovative thinking to enhance academic programs, maintain enrichment activities, and encourage enrollment
• Ensure that the district stays current with today’s educational technology
• Provide leadership to integrate best practices, data-driven decision making, and 21st century skills into all of the district’s programs
• Support the development of the district’s charter programs

The District

Twin Hills Union is a four-school district in western Sonoma County. It has two traditional academic schools: Apple Blossom and Twin Hills Middle. These schools offer strong academics in supported environments supplemented by enrichment programs. Orchard View is a K-12 independent study charter school that provides students and families with curriculum support, supplemental academics, and arts programs. SunRidge School is a K-8 Waldorf-inspired charter school.            

Exemplary academic instruction coupled with small class sizes have led to these results. Students also benefit from an abundance of enrichment programs.

All teachers are highly qualified and there is a high degree of collegiality among administrators, teachers, and classified staff.

For all Twin Hills Union employees, the focus is students and how to ensure their success. As a result of recent enrollment growth, new teachers have been hired, programs added or expanded, and campuses maintained in an exemplary fashion. The district has a solar project to reduce its carbon footprint while saving on electrical costs.

Apple Blossom School

The staff at Apple Blossom believe that nothing prepares children for life better than an early  love of learning. The K-5 school offers a warm, nurturing, and engaging academic curriculum and constantly expanding enrichment programs, from music and art classes to piano and Spanish. Parents actively support the school’s programs. 

Twin Hills School

Twin Hills Middle School is committed to excellence. Its mission is to provide all students in grades 6-8 with an education that is academically challenging in an atmosphere of mutual caring and respect. The school endeavors to give its students the foundation for a life of continuous learning, while preparing them to be contributing citizens.

Orchard View School

This K-12 independent study charter school was established in 2000. Utilizing a non-traditional  learning environment, Orchard View treats each student as a person with unique needs, skills,  goals, and interests. Supervising teachers design individualized lesson plans and work with parents and students to develop and monitor the academic program. On-campus K-8 enrichment classes and high school academic classes are available.

SunRidge School

This school uses a Waldorf curriculum and serves over 200 students in grades K-8. The faculty is supported by an involved parent body and a collaborative model of governance. Class sizes are small and the curriculum is enriched with art, instrumental music, choir, movement, games, foreign language, gardening, and more.

The Community
Twin Hills Union is one of 40 school districts in Sonoma County, located north of San Francisco. The county is known for the scenic beauty of its vineyards, redwood forests, rolling hills, coastal cliffs, and beaches. A majority of the county’s approximately 500,000 residents live in seven incorporated cities along the Highway 101 corridor. Sebastopol, home to Twin Hills Union, is in the rural, western part of the county, halfway between the region’s largest city (Santa Rosa) and the Pacific Ocean - both 20-minute drives away. Sebastopol has a small-town charm and is known for its liberal politics and history as an apple-growing region. In recent years, most of the orchards have been turned into vineyards. The city hosts the annual Apple Blossom Festival and Gravenstein Apple Fair, which are popular Sebastopol traditions.
