Garrison Forest School is seeking a creative and dynamic individual for a full-time faculty position in our Middle School as the Middle School Physical Education Teacher commencing August 2021. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator who brings an energetic and contemporary approach to the teaching of physical education. Depending on experience and school needs, this could be a possible PE Department Chair position.
This position reports to the Head of the Middle School and meets with the Chair of the Physical Education Department and Director of Athletics. Comfort with current educational and communication technology and willingness to innovate, collaborate and challenge are essential. Major duties and responsibilities include:
Teach Physical Education classes to students in Grades 6-8
Coach two seasons of afterschool athletics
Serve as an advisor to a small group of Middle School students
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter
Create a secure and stimulating environment in which students grow in both autonomy and the ability to work and interact together
Possess strong communication skills, a patient and thorough understanding of adolescence and the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues
Contribute to the life of the School by chaperoning Middle School field trips as well as one weekend activity for the Residential Life program and several weekend activities for the Middle School
Take responsibility for being a role model by maintaining an environment that fosters respect among students and colleagues
Possess strong communication skills, a patient and thorough understanding of early adolescence and the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and parents
Work alongside the Middle School Administrative team to build a meaningful learning experience for students
Proctor Study Halls & Recess as needed
Assist the Dean of Students with play days, Spirit Days and other outdoor activities
B.S. degree or equivalent relevant to Middle School Physical Education – Master’s degree desirable.
Prior experience working in a school desirable.
