Responsibilities and Competencies

The master teacher should bring energy and curriculum development skills to the science department by being able to teach effectively and passionately. Other responsibilities and necessary competencies include the following:

• Demonstrating a passion for science 
• Teaching 5 classes, willing to teach at all grade  levels (6-8) in middle school
• Exhibiting excellent teaching skills that demonstrate best practice, including inquiry-based learning, differentiated instruction, and facilitation.
• Understanding the development of middle-school students and possessing a passion for working with this age group
• Collaborating with colleagues to deliver differentiated curriculum that supports the needs of all learners (e.g., scaffolding and/or extending the content when appropriate) 
• Demonstrating a growth mindset, the ability to give and receive feedback, and willingness to become a valued colleague in a strong and cohesive community
• Exhibiting interpersonal and leadership skills with the potential to chair a department
• Working with grade-level colleagues to plan and coordinate all content, activities, and grading for each class
• Advising 12-14 students and facilitating the “Lead from Here” curriculum; meeting with parents of advisees
• Interacting effectively with parents, colleagues, and members of the leadership team
• Integrating curriculum with learning management platform to make content and assignments accessible for all students and demonstrate effective technology skills in the classroom
• Participating in other aspects of the School community. Coaching a sport is highly desirable.
