The Principal’s Role Marist High School seeks a dynamic Catholic leader to serve as Principal of the coeducational, college preparatory high school founded in 1963 by the Marist Brothers. We proudly incorporate the Marist Mission into all we do “To make Jesus known and loved.” The school, inspired by the spirit of St. Marcellin Champagnat, the founder of the Marist Brothers, seeks to emulate the role of Mary through the nurturing of youth by a caring faculty and in the showing of special concern for the less fortunate. Position Summary: The Principal is the chief operating officer of Marist High School and is appointed by the President in consultation with the provincial of the Marist Brothers, Province of the United States. The Principal works with the President and the School Board of Marist High School to achieve the mission of Marist High School as a Catholic school in the Marist Brothers’ tradition. The Principal reports directly to the President. The Principal has primary responsibility for all matters related to academic programs, student services, faculty, and the daily operations of the school. Along with the President, the Principal is “a keeper of the charism” of Marcellin Champagnat and Marist Education. The ideal candidate demonstrates the following qualities and capabilities: - A practicing Catholic with a passion for Catholic education who is willing to embrace the Marist tradition. Experience with Catholic schools is preferred and valued in a candidate.
- An accomplished educator and administrator with administrative experience in academic positions, including at least five years’ experience in the classroom at the high school level.
- An advanced degree in educational leadership, along with demonstrated administrative experience.
- A collaborative, engaging and focused leader and team player who will effectively and consistently manage the school’s short-term and long-term academic priorities. The Principal is the “face of Marist” for students, families, and the community at large.
- An academic leader who will work with the academic leaders of the school and faculty members to establish a professional learning environment focused on teacher growth to ensure a high-quality 21st century, Catholic education for all students.

The Principal’s Role Essential Responsibilities: - Responsible for ensuring that the school’s mission, philosophy, policies, educational objectives, and curriculum goals are being met – in conjunction with the President.
- Responsible for developing the Marist High School faith community through the integration of our Catholic faith with the learning process, the Religious Studies program, Campus Ministry activities, student retreats, faculty/staff retreats and service programs – in conjunction with the President.
- Oversees the supervision and evaluation of all instructional personnel.
- Supervises personnel responsible for student activities, co-curricular programs, and student support services while approving new co-curricular activities.
- Along with the President, oversees the Athletic Director and athletic program.
- Conducts formal and informal faculty observations and evaluations.
- Communicates final judgment after consultation with the President regarding the hiring and retention of administrators, faculty, coaches, and staff.
- Provides leadership for curriculum by assuming overall responsibility and accountability for the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the college preparatory curriculum, with the assistance of the academic team.
- Ensures integration of technology into the instructional program.
- Works closely with the President to plan, manage, and monitor the implementation of the school budget.
- Monitors maintenance of the building and operations of the physical plant in keeping with priorities identified by the President.
- Is an ex-officio member of the School Board of Marist High School; reports to the Board at each meeting.
- Is the primary liaison in educational matters to and between Illinois State Board of Education agencies, AdvancED, Archdiocese of Chicago Office of Catholic Schools, IHSA, ESCC, and ESCC/CCL, Marist Brothers’ Office of Education.
- Oversees the development and construction of the school’s master schedule.
- Works with the administrative team and the faculty to develop in-service programs for the faculty and staff.
- Participates in the acceptance of and/or dismissal of students from Marist High School, in conjunction with the President.
- Is present and visible to the faculty and students in order to provide them with guidance and support.
