When you walk through the front doors of our Lower School, you'll immediately feel just how special a place this is for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. From the welcoming Living Room just inside the front door (often warmed by a cozy fire in the fireplace), to the bright and spacious classrooms and hallways adorned with student artwork, to the five acres of open green space just outside our back door, the Lower School is designed around the academic, social, and emotional needs of young children. Position Begins: mid-August 2021

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Department: Instructional Faculty, Lower School

Position Description: 

SPA currently seeks a full-time Lower School Music and Movement Teacher to join an innovative teaching team beginning August 2021. Successful candidates will exhibit the capacity to create developmentally and interculturally appropriate curricula, to establish a nurturing and engaging classroom environment for all students, to work collaboratively with various colleagues and parents/guardians, and to produce and direct student performances. In addition, cultural competency, excellent written and oral communication skills, a demonstrated love for teaching young children, a passion for personal expression, and active participation in the arts are essential to success in this position. Preference will be given to candidates who possess: 

• Orff Schulwerk training (minimum Level 1), 
• instrumental proficiency (guitar, piano, recorder), 
• the ability to execute movement instruction, 
• experience teaching stagecraft/acting/drama
• Beyond Diversity I training, and/or 
• Responsive Classroom training.

Requirements: 

• K-5 music education degree and/or general music degree with extensive experience teaching primary aged students
• Orff Schulwerk training (minimum Level 1) 
• Experience teaching stagecraft/acting/drama preferred
• Master’s degree preferred
