Position Overview: Lick-Wilmerding High School currently seeks a dedicated educator to join our English Department as a full-time teacher for a one-year position beginning August 1, 2021. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong practice of and commitment to anti-racist and identity-inclusive pedagogy that supports students of all backgrounds to succeed academically, collaborate, and develop self-reflection tools for personal growth. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate a strong practice of and commitment to collaboration with colleagues. Lick-Wilmerding actively fosters equity and diversity in our hiring practices.
Responsibilities: The person hired for this position will teach 4 sections of 15 to 16 students each semester, most likely 9th grade and 10th grade English. However, flexibility and capacity to teach or learn to teach at all grade levels is preferred. Faculty also have community responsibilities to further the mission of the school through Advising, the Public Purpose Program, Enrollment and other co-curricular activities of the school. Faculty are expected to participate fully in all curricular team meetings, department meetings, faculty meetings, and office hours to support students when needed.
The ideal candidate will have:
A preferred minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching students how to read, write, think and speak critically about literature and what it shows about human experience
A commitment to anti-racist history pedagogy, diversity, equity and equitable instruction in the English classroom
Experience with student-centered teaching and learning
Experience with differentiated instruction for students who come from various academic backgrounds
Experience working with diverse populations, contributing to campus diversity efforts, and/or evidence of cultural competence
Interest in curriculum development, curricular innovation, and professional growth
Experience, interest in, and commitment to work on a grade level curriculum team
Some facility or capacity to adapt to remote teaching through various online technologies
