The Potomac School Foreign Language Department seeks a full-time Upper School Spanish Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. This position reports to the Head of the Upper School and is responsible for teaching four classes as well as advising a group of Upper School students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspire a love of learning in students through teaching four classes.
Build relationships with students via the classroom and an advisory.
Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instruction in a manner that facilitates active, student-centered learning using various teaching methods such as discussions, group activities, and occasional lectures.
Conduct classes almost exclusively in the target language.
Work with students to encourage and facilitate each individual’s growth.
Teach the assigned curriculum, evaluate students’ progress, and inform parents of progress.
Keep attendance records; manage student behavior in the classroom and maintain a positive educational environment for all students.
Meet with parents as needed to discuss student progress and challenges.
Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and other teacher training workshops.
Demonstrate personal leadership qualities to inspire student learning, including understanding of the characteristics of the age group taught.
Work in an organized, dependable, patient, and creative manner.
Advise a small group of Upper School students by developing meaningful relationships with them and supporting their academic and social-emotional growth.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
A minimum of two years’ teaching experience at the Upper School level.
Experience with the Descubre Program’s “Supersite” from the Vista Higher Learning publisher.
Skilled in writing and preparing lesson plans.
Ability to communicate, motivate and understand the students’ educational and emotional needs.
Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers, support staff, parents and members of the community.
Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students and utilize different teaching methods that will result in higher student achievement.
