Garden School, a N-12 independent school located in Jackson Heights, New York, is seeking an enthusiastic educator to serve as an English teacher beginning in fall 2021.
While this position is likely to focus on grades 7 & 8, opportunities for working with older grades exists as well. The new department chair has set a goal to re-examine the literary canon, which also includes the possibility of exploring new courses for upper division (grades 7-12) students. As we have also recently launched a new strategic plan for Garden School, we are investigating our curriculum through intensive discussions with faculty and students and hope you would be an active participant in both processes.
As one of the most diverse independent schools not only in New York, but the country, we seek an educator who is eager to work with a wide range of students with regards to race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, socio-economic backgrounds, sexual and gender identity and learning orientations. We encourage creative ideas in your teaching that excite and challenge you and your students, but also will be sure to offer you mentorship and support from your department chair, department colleagues, other members of the faculty and the administration. We also encourage collaboration across academic disciplines to keep learning new and fresh. Last, you can expect small classes that rarely climb higher in number than 15 students and more likely falls closer to 10-12. These students will be capable and excited to learn.
