Under the direction of the Heads of Upper School and Middle School, the Teacher of Health will teach Upper School Health classes, collaborate with teachers to develop and oversee the Middle School Health curriculum, work closely with the Student Support Team, the Director of Community and Inclusion, and the Grade-Level Deans to develop programming for seventh through twelfth grade students to promote student health and well-being. This position will provide vision and direction for positive, progressive health education that is student-centered and empowering.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities(include, but are not limited to, the following)
Plan for and teach curriculum relevant to teaching load
Collaborate with middle school teachers to develop and deliver a Health program for 8th Grade Students
Collaborate with the Student Support Team on programming to support student health and wellness across all grade levels
Stay up to date through continued professional development on a broad spectrum of issues having to do with student health, wellness, and identity
Work closely with the Director of Community and Inclusion and student leaders of affinity and alliance spaces to ensure that Health classes and school-wide programming are inclusive and thoughtful about issues of equity and diversity
Participate in a grade-level team and work closely with the grade-level deans of all grades to support health programming at each level
Collaborate with co-teachers (if applicable) and grade level team members
Communicate with students and parents in a timely and professional manner
Participate in school events (including but not limited to Back to School Night and Parent Conferences, Student-Led Conferences, Admissions Events), field trips, chaperone duties, and faculty meetings
Chaperone global travel trip (international and/or domestic)
Attend faculty orientation week
Provide leadership in service learning, clubs, and/or advisory as assigned
Support the PRS Mission
Other duties as assigned in partnership with the Dean of Faculty, Division Heads, Head of School or designee
Qualifications (minimum requirements)
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree from an accredited institution is preferred
At least three years teaching experience preferred, ideally at the secondary school level
Experience with middle and high school student
