Chester Valley Golf Club
Chester Valley has long been considered, by most, one of the “hidden gems” of Philadelphia golf, and as such was selected to host the Senior PGA tour in 1985. Hosting the Senior tour for 13 of its 17 years in the Philadelphia region, Chester Valley became known as one of the toughest tests on the Senior tour. Its 6th hole was ranked in the top five toughest holes, year to year, including the Senior U.S. Open golf holes. Golf at CVGC continues to thrive as it nears its centennial. CVGC continues to be thought of as a hidden gem, and remains to be one of the premier courses in Chester County, the Philadelphia region, and the entire Delaware Valley. CVGC is an equity club with approximately 500 total members. Founded in 1923, CVGC underwent a renovation to its greens tees, and fairways in 2008. Bunkers were restored in 2004. (www.chestervalleygc.org) Chester Valley has once again partnered with Jim Nagle from Forse Design to implement a Long-Range Improvement Plan to the golf course. Enhancements include adding a short game practice facility on vacant Chester Valley owned land, adding forward tees, fairway expansions, roll off areas and incorporating an updated landscape plan to the golf course. Implementation of certain phases of the LRIP are expected to kickoff in the Fall of 2021. The individual must have a minimum of 1-year practical golf course experience, along with the willingness and desire to advance in the industry. This is an entry level management position. This position will provide the right individual with the fundamental tools and understanding required to be a First Assistant and advance their career. The Second Assistant will have the opportunity to experience all aspects of golf course management. Duties will include but not be limited to: course setup, mowing of playing surfaces (greens, tees, fairways, roughs), bunker and natural area maintenance, ability to operate tractors and attached implements, proper hand watering procedures to playing surfaces (greens, tees, fairways, roughs), ability to diagnose and repair basic issues with the irrigation system, have previous experience with the proper handling, tracking, record keeping and application of fertilizers and pesticides along with basic comprehension of their purpose. The applicant must have the ability to scout for and be able to diagnose common pests related to the turf industry. Applicant must possess a PA spray license or be able to obtain one within 60 days of hire. Applicant being proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point are helpful. Knowledge with Rainbird would be a plus, but not necessary. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus, but not necessary. The individual must be on time, a self-starter, motivator, show leadership, maintain a positive attitude (even during stressful situations), remain reliable, be organized, and have a keen eye to detail. The 2nd Assistant will have the ability to… under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent; help the assistant oversee the day-to-day operation of the green staff at Chester Valley Golf Club.
