The Lang School
The Lang School (thelangschool.org) is a progressive independent school located in lower Manhattan serving grades K-12. Our high potential and gifted learners also have learning challenges, such as ADHD, anxiety, EF difficulties, dyslexia, or high functioning autism. These twice-exceptional (“2e”) learners have a unique set of social-emotional and intellectual needs. We meet students where they are and empower them achieve their next levels of excellence with research-based supports & a robust Talent Development Program.
Our mission is to create a safe and engaging learning environment for students with an emphasis on creative thinking and assets-based approaches. Our students are both unique and diverse, and we seek out and celebrate diversity in our community – in our identities (race, ethnicity, gender expression, socioeconomic status), as well as our backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
We are looking for an experienced School Psychologist to work collaboratively with students, faculty, parents, school leadership, as well as outside providers in supporting individual student goals across the areas of social, emotional, behavioral, and academic well-being and success. This is a full-time position, and it starts August 23, 2021.
School Psychologist Responsibilities > Conduct observations and collect/interpret data to identify the current developmental and cognitive needs of students in partnership with the Education Team; > Collaborate in translating and communicating to stakeholders (staff, parents, outside providers) those observations and data into practices to improve student wellbeing and success; > Provide at least weekly 1:1 counseling onsite, including crisis intervention & support; > Provide regular feedback and updates to all stakeholders, and gather updated information from same; > Based on all information and current evaluations, create and/or update Learner Profiles; > Participate in the Admissions process via student observations or meetings, and feedback; > Partner with the Admissions team in creating, implementing, and supervising transition plans for new students; > Document psychological services for students; > Prepare progress reports about individual students twice yearly. > The School Psychologist position is full-time.

Requirements – Education, Certification, & Work Experience: > Full NYS licensure as a clinical psychologist at the PsyD or PhD level highly preferred > NYS school psychologist certification highly preferred > License-eligible, doctoral-level school psychologists (ABD) will be considered, depending on the extent of applicable clinical and school experience to date (NYS school psychologist certification required for these candidates) > LCSW candidates will be considered, depending on the extent of applicable clinical and school experience to date > Genuine interest in special education, gifted, and/or 2e learners > Five+ years of work in schools required > Familiarity and alignment with our mission and core programs (CPS, PBIS, DBT/CBT, OST/OTMP & DRCs) required. > A minimum commitment of three years
The Lang School Pandemic Response Plan: > The Lang School is currently fully remote, though we hope – and are planning – to return to in-person teaching in May 2021. > Lang employees are expected to get the Covid-19 vaccine as soon as they can. > For the 2021/22 academic year, staff and faculty will report to The Lang School in-person on August 23, 2021.
Compensation: Compensation is competitive, and it is based on experience, background, and certification. The Lang School offers a competitive benefits package, including health insurance and opportunities for further education.
