TMI Episcopal is seeking a full-time English teacher. The position will commence in August 2021. A strong candidate will have 3-5 years of prior teaching experience in independent schools.
The ideal candidate will be well versed in NCTE and NAIS best practices and have knowledge and experience in teaching students how to read, write, think, and speak critically about literature. Their teaching approach will reflect experience with a variety of modes of teaching and demonstrate a strong ability to differentiate instruction.
Teach five sections of English
Serve as an advisor to a small group of students
Fulfill duties as assigned throughout the day
Contribute to the broader community by participating in extracurricular activities to possibly include the athletic program, residential life program, and/or club programs
Bachelor's degree in English or related field; Master’s degree in English or education preferred
Three to five years teaching experience at the middle school and/or upper school level, preferably in an independent school setting
Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that are structured, multi-sensory and targeted to individual learning styles in order to facilitate active learning and assist students in achieving their potential.
Ensure that curriculum and lesson plans are in accordance with established school procedures and pedagogy.
Collaborate with department teams to achieve optimum outcome for each student.
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials, and equipment.
Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the disciplinary systems of the School.
Provide appropriate feedback and encouragement to students on their work.
Monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
Participate in department, grade-level, school, and parent meetings.
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Prepare classroom for class activities.
Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
