Collaborating deeply as a dynamic team dedicated to creativity and risk-taking in our teaching, we engage students in true problem-solving, not simply the application of rote skills to difficult problems, where technology becomes a tool for discovery and extension, not just a calculation device. We recognize that when students tackle rich math tasks, ask insightful questions, take risks, practice core skills, and learn from mistakes, they build mathematical capacity, resilience, understanding, and mastery. As a Middle School Math Teacher who combines mathematical aptitude with mathematically-specific pedagogical knowledge, you will be integral to helping us further refine and implement an outstanding, rigorous, and holistic Challenging Education curriculum while bringing wisdom, energy, insight, and warmth to the position and department.
Teach five sections of Middle School Math involving some combination of two to three different courses ranging from 6th grade math up through 8th grade algebra 1, with the possibility for changes year to year based on school needs
Provide students with thoughtful and timely formative and summative feedback in line with the school, divisional, and departmental assessment expectations. Prepare and enter grades, comments, and grade reports in accordance with school and divisional policies
Demonstrate a commitment to working with culturally diverse students, families, and colleagues and contributing to building and maintaining an inclusive community
Actively support and stay current on the needs of and changes to formal Bosque School student learning and medical/mental health plans. Work in collaboration with the Student Support Team, which could include the Learning Specialist, Nurse, Counselors, Deans, and Division Heads to integrate student accommodations into the classroom
Provide extra help for students, including being available during office hours/homework cafe/non-teaching periods to meet with students
Keep parents informed in a timely manner if a student is below academic or behavioral expectations following divisional expectations (following ‘official notes’ expectations, etc)
Participate in parent/guardian conferences and parent/guardian programs at school
Adhere to internal and external school communication guidelines
Attend staffulty, department, and grade-level meetings, unless excused by Division Head(s), arriving on time and participating professionally throughout the meeting (not leaving early, being distracted by off task projects, or working on other projects at that time unless approved by the Division Head)
Collaboratively work with colleagues and administrators in support of the manifestation of our mission and values. When disagreements arise, lean into our “cultivating community” behaviors of coming together in moments of crisis and confusion, assuming positive intent, and seeking clarification
Work closely with the Math department and grade-level teams
Demonstrate a deep understanding and appreciation for middle school aged students
Engage in the planning and execution of interdisciplinary project work
Participate fully in the Bosque community supporting students, colleagues, families, and school culture and community
Engage enthusiastically in our robust annual professional development program
Demonstrate a growth mindset and being open to constructive feedback
Create a safe, rigorous, and nurturing learning environment for all students
Fulfill other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Middle School Division Head, such as serving as a faculty advisor to middle school students and supporting service learning initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree required
Three years of teaching experience at the middle school level preferred
Demonstrated cultural competence with regard to both curriculum and pedagogy

About Bosque School
Founded in 1994 and located on a 45-acre site in the bosque in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bosque School values integrity, community and scholarship. Our progressive curriculum is designed to support a lifelong learning mindset through challenge and inquiry. Through the Bosque Environmental Monitoring Program, our students host thousands of peers from around the state as they are trained on-site to collect scientific data for use by researchers at the University of New Mexico. A dynamic Service Learning program develops student leadership skills. Ongoing teacher growth is facilitated by the Sofia Center for Professional Development, like BEMP and our student service program, an expression of the school's commitment to public-private partnership in our community. Currently, we serve about 500 students in grades six through twelve. There are over 50 full-time faculty members with more than half of them holding advanced degrees.
